Helpful Hints on Timesheet Calculations

  1. Convert to Military Time. Add 12 to hours after 1pm to 11pm
  2. Round minutes to the nearest quarter of an hour
  3. Minutes will be entered as follows:

        a. 15 minutes as .25
        b. 30 minutes as .50
        c. 45 minutes as .75

  4. To calculate time worked each day, first enter finish time. Next, subtract your start time and then subtract amount of time taken for lunch. Record results as a whole number and/or decimal in Total Time column.

Traditional Resume Formats

The chronological resume is the most common form of resume seen in the market space. It lists the candidate's work history in chronological order. Each job is listed in order beginning with the most recent position and working toward the oldest job. Virtually all employers accept chronological resumes. They are often preferred because they clearly detail the work history. They also present the information in an expected traditional format that is easy to understand.

Chronological resumes are the standard choice for entry and executive level business positions. Nonetheless, chronological may not be the best format for you. If you have worked in a variety of industries or have had a number of job changes then the chronological format may highlight gaps in your employment history. If you have been out of the workforce for a number of years or you are launching your first job search, then you will want to use a functional resume.

Make certain that any resume you submit is neat and well edited. Always attach a cover letter and include your address and phone number at the top of the page so the employer can easily contact you.

What You Need For Your Interview

There are a number of items that may be needed during your interview. It is wise to invest in an attractive briefcase or satchel that will look organized to the potential employer. Be sure to organize your contents before the interview. Bring a notepad and several pens so that you can take notes about what is being said.

You will also want to have a planner available in case you need to schedule follow-up appointments. If you can provide samples of the type of work you do, you may want to bring some along. For example, you may want to bring a portfolio or your written work or a picture of something you have designed. Remember that any samples you bring should be relevant to the position you are applying for. You should also bring several copies of your resume.

Sometimes an employer will need extra copies or they may want to refer to a specific item you listed. Finally, bring a comb, breath freshener, floss, extra make-up, and a small bottle of deodorant to adjust your look.
